Embracing My Inner Child

How the heck is it July already? Wasn’t I just crying over my son’s high school graduation? Well, I’m still doing a little bit of that—especially as we approach his move-in day. I’ve been spending most of my time embracing my inner child and the wonder of nature.

My garden is in full swing, and I’ve been spending many weekend hours in my garden, at U-pick farms, and canning in my kitchen. There is something indescribably magnificent about having my hands in the dirt, selecting my own fruit to feed my family over the winter months, and watching and waiting patiently for my crops to grow. I’m a self-taught gardener and canner, so it’s a bit of trial and error. Even when my first batch of strawberry jam came out as strawberry sauce, I was thrilled at the accomplishment (and the prospect of strawberry shortcake for many months to come!)

My husband and I also decided to take salsa and merengue lessons this summer. While I’m not a natural-born dancer, it has been super fun to spend time together learning the steps and laughing at ourselves while spending quality time together. We’ve also been taking advantage of our beautiful campus while the students are gone and walking downtown to have brunch and visit the farmers market on the weekends. We have officially become East Lansing Farmer’s Market “regulars”, a title I adore.

This summer, I aimed to create memories, indulge in my love of reading, spend as much time with my family as possible, and soak in beautiful Michigan weather. So far, so good…if I do say so myself.

I hope you are enjoying the beauty of this season as much as I am! Drop me a line and let me know what you are fascinated with now!

Love and light,

Shelley
