For the Love of Nature and Love
One of my goals for this year was to hike the Grand Canyon. It came from a girl’s trip idea that didn’t make it to fruition. Since my hubby and I both share of love of Arizona, he was kind enough to oblige me on my quest, and we made it our 5th-anniversary vacation.
I had the best plans of getting myself “hiking ready” in the months preceding. I bought all the right equipment, and there was nothing stopping me other than prioritizing my training. Then came two bouts of COVID, a reemerging foot injury from years ago, an overpacked schedule…the list goes on and on. Needless to say, I was not at my peak physical performance when we arrived. I iced, elevated, and medicated my foot the night before and decided that my hardheadedness would get me through the next day.
I don’t know if it was the Arizona energy, the beauty of the canyon, time unplugged with my husband, the stories and facts that our guide told us along the way, my supportive hiking boots, or a combination of all, but I enjoyed every single minute (even on the way back up) of our hike. The people along the way were so kind, the entire day was picture-perfect, and every view was awe-inspiring. Being immersed in the power of nature was exactly what my soul needed.
Our time in Arizona was relaxing and rejuvenating. The day after the hike, we went to Sedona, which is hands down one of my favorite places on Earth. Connecting and unwinding in red rock country for a few days was nice. The slower pace helped me realize how much I’ve let some of my priorities get out of whack. I realized that I need to focus on my physical, mental, and emotional strength and focus on one-on-one time with my honey bunny.
With the grind of graduation, work, summer travel, and moving my son to college—we’ve got a lot on our plates. We’re committed to prioritizing time together in ways that honor our desire for health and longevity. We want to keep hiking and start Salsa dance lessons next month! I’m recommitting to refocusing on the things that make me feel whole, including movement, meditation, sleep, and time in nature.
I hope you take this time of rebirth to look at your life and make sure your priorities are reflected in your calendar too!
Love and light,
Shelley
