MLK, Jr. the Dali Lama and Meditation
I have been inspired by Martin Luther King, Jr. since I was a young child. I thought it was apropos to use his quote for my blog on this day of celebration and awareness about his lifelong efforts.
Peace is important to me, and something I seek each day. It’s the best word to describe the sense inner knowing and self-awareness I aspire to achieve in my daily meditation practice. Slowing my mind, focusing on my breath or a mantra gives me space to offer grace to myself and then extend to others.
I am currently completing The Dali Lama’s guide to Happiness on the Ten Percent Happier app. It’s a meditation challenge that includes a beautiful mixture words of wisdom from His Holiness, and guided meditation by Roshi Joan Halifax, PHD. Admittedly, I love a good challenge, however; I also love learning from folks who are committed to living compassionate lives. It helps me remain grounded in my personal promise to self-care, inner peace, and gratitude.
I hope you take today to pause and reflect on all of the people who have made your life a little better. I hope you take time each day to do the same for yourself and others.
Love and light,
Shelley
