Cruising, Clarity, Connection
This year's spring break was exactly what my soul needed.
My husband, our youngest child, and I packed up for a well-planned road trip to Florida—plenty of snacks, laughter, and, of course, the required stops at Buc-ee's (because is it really a road trip without it?). From there, we took a lovely cruise to the Bahamas and spent time soaking in the sunshine, the salt air, and most importantly—each other.
After the cruise, we spent a few days visiting my parents, catching up with our Florida kids, shopping, eating fabulous meals, and sharing meaningful, uninterrupted time. It was the kind of trip that made you pause and reflect on what truly matters.
Fittingly, I had started listening to The 5 Types of Wealth audiobook the prior week and finished it on the drive. Let me tell you—it really spoke to my heart. The book divides wealth into five types: time, social, mental, physical, and financial. That framework helped me see our trip for what it really was: an investment in our true wealth.
This wasn't just a vacation. It was an intentional moment of connection, reflection, and presence. It reminded me how fleeting life can be and how important it is to spend time with the people who mean the most. With just over a year until we officially become empty nesters, I find myself pondering what this next season of life will look like. Where will our energy go? What will define our purpose? What kind of wealth do we want to deepen?
I'm still working through the book's themes and identifying my own "life razor"—that clear, guiding principle for living aligned with what matters most. But this trip helped clarify that love, presence, and meaningful relationships are non-negotiable.
If you haven't yet explored The 5 Types of Wealth, I highly recommend it. And maybe, take your own kind of trip—whether it's a getaway or just a pause in your routine—to check in with what's filling your life... and what might need more space.
Love and light,
Shelley
