(So Many) Lessons in Mindfulness
As I’ve mentioned before… I'm very committed to my practice of mindfulness. For me that includes patience, observation, and acceptance. Meditation and mindfulness have been part of my life for over a decade, but I made it a priority in 2023. Isn't it funny how life will immediately provide you with learning opportunities when you commit to growth? Spring break included delayed flights, bouts of Norovirus at the hotel, and then my first go round with COVID the following week. Dare I say my patience and acceptance has been put to the test?!?!
In my work to overcome old patterns, I chose to take the time to simply observe and experience the realities of my life in those moments. It seems like a no-brainer; however, consider how much time we spend arguing with the reality of our past or present circumstances. I’m quick to admit that I have spent an inordinate amount of time ruminating about the past, or trying to predict or control the future instead of witnessing the present.
My conference/Peach’s spring break illnesses turned into an opportunity to binge the Hunger Game Series in advance of the prequel that is scheduled to come out this fall. Our delayed flight gave me precious 1:1 time with her, which is a rarity these days. My COVID allowed me to listen to and honor my body, which included liberal use of the coveted heated bathtub we installed during out remodel in 2021.
As I make my way back to full strength, I do so with gratitude for all the lessons I’ve been presented over the past couple of weeks. It also gives me examples to draw on for the eight-week mindfulness course that I am hosting starting on June 5 (full details coming soon— I promise!)
Take time to enjoy the moment!
Love and light,
Shelley
